Senate Dems Try To Force GOP’s Hand On Medicare Privatization

Unfortunately, both the Hirono/Donnelly amendment and the Sanders Amendment failed. Both of these amendments would have prevented any cuts to Social Security or Medicare during the 2017 Congressional budgeting process. Democrats overwhelmingly supported protecting these benefits while Republicans overwhelmingly opposed the idea of not being able to cut Medicare or Social Security. Senator Collins, Republican Senator from Maine, was an exception. She joined the Democrats in voting for both amendments. Senator Heller, Republican from Nevada, voted with the Democrats on the Hirono/Donnelly amendment.

Obviously, we need more Republicans who are willing to join with Democrats to protect the health and well-being of America’s senior citizens. If you live in a state that sent Republican Senators to Washington,  Please call them often in the next few weeks and ask them to protect our care.
